Train trips are set to be more fun than ever before for Amdavadis. What with the Railways planning to introduce Gujarati thali, complete with dhokla and jalebi, for passengers from the state. The service is likely to be introduced in the next two months. To begin with, premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi originating from Gujarat are being considered for Gujarati cuisine. The move will be extended to all other trains in course of time. Railway sources said the decision was taken on public demand. The IRCTC is currently working out the nitty-gritty of the proposed service. Officials said since quality food was their priority, they were devising effective packing methods for Gujarati food items like khaman, ganthia and fafda. “We are insistent on not compromising on quality. We don’t want to serve crushed khaman or fafda for that will defeat the purpose. Hence, we are perfecting our packaging process for these special items,” said IRCTC chief regional manager Pravin Parmar.
The experience will be quite like a restaurant, promise officials. So expect a bill from a polite waiter at the end of a hearty meal. And if passengers feel the food’s not been up to their expectation, the IRCTC is making facilities for filing complaints.
