It was an action-packed Tuesday morning at DPS Gandhinagar, where an irate group of parents — as many as 150 of them — gathered, demanding a solution from the school principal to the problems they had discussed on March 20. The principal kept them waiting for three hours before surfacing at the assembly hall under complete police protection.
The issues that the parents wanted her to address included change in timings from 7.15 am-1.30 pm to 9.40 am-2.40 pm, increase in tuition fee and transport fee. Parents said the new timings are inconvenient for working parents as they would not be able to drop the child to the school, if the bus does not arrive due to some reason.
But the principal Rani Choudhary was in no mood to listen to them, initially. She had told them last Friday that she would address the problems on Tuesday in a meeting, the timings of which would be SMSed to all parents. But that did not happen. The annoyed parents decided to meet up at the school and confront the principal over the issues.
They gathered at the assembly hall in the basement at 9.30 am and told the school staff they wanted the principal to come down and talk to them. But Choudhary had locked herself up in her chamber. After an hour, a staff member asked the mediapersons to leave the hall and said the principal only wanted to meet the parents. But the parents protested, saying it was them who had invited the media.
Some of them even went and knocked her door. Choudhary, however, did not respond. At 12.30 pm, Choudhary, escorted by the Adalaj police, reached the hall and began listening to the issues raised by the parents.
