With a view to connect with youth ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress will set up 50 internet kiosks in Gujarat this month. Youngsters will be allowed to surf the internet for free and access an extensive database of the party and its members on the kiosks.Sources in the Congress said that the party decided to set up the kiosks following Rahul Gandhi’s appeal to engage more youngsters in the run-up to the national polls.
They said that sections of the kiosks’ screens — i.e. on the top and right — will feature messages by Congress leaders, including Rahul, Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh. The messages, in all 48, will change every 12 seconds.Interestingly, information about the grants provided to states by the UPA government will also be available on the kiosks.
“People will be able to access details about state grants and their use on the kiosks,” the sources said. “Extensive information about the Indo-US nuclear deal will also be made available.” The sources said that the details about state grants had been obtained by the Congress under the RTI Act. The 50 kiosks to be set up in Gujarat, according to the sources, are among 600 planned by the Congress across the country. “Among other features, youngsters will be able to register with the Congress online,” they said. “A special section has been created, wherein people will be able send messages to Rahul.”Some in the Congress claim a software has been specially developed for the kiosks.
