In what could be seen as a major embarrassment to Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi, his plans to get Chief Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate seven buildings on the varsity campus, three of which he himself had inaugurated in October last year, has flopped big time. The inauguration was to be held on February 12 following a gala function to be spearheaded by the VC. The programme has been postponed indefinitely.
The reason: CM is busy with other programmes. On January 31, AM had carried a report (Don’t waste your time, Modiji!) on the VC’s plans to get Modi to inaugurate buildings university’s Convention Centre, Information Centre, Department of Defence Studies and Professional Courses, Home Science Department, Human Genetic Centre, Educational Media and Research Centre and Geo-Informatic Climate Change Management Centre.
The paper reported that Dr Trivedi had already inaugurated Department of Defence Studies and Professional Courses, Home Science Department and Educational Media Research Centre and to ensure that the CM doesn’t get a wind of this, he had secretly got the plaques bearing his name and function details removed from these buildings.
Sources in GU told Mirror that the VC’s February 12 event was planned more than a month ago and there was no reason it should have been cancelled at the eleventh hour. They told Mirror that Minister of State for Higher Education Mayaben Kodnani had visited GU on Monday and surveyed the seven buildings which were to be inaugurated by Modi on February 12.Sources in the ministry told Mirror that the CM has other engagements on that day. This includes a Narmada water pipeline project inauguration in Sabarkantha at 12.30 pm, inauguration of police station in Maninagar at 2.30 pm and felicitation of Kailas Mansarovar pilgrims from Gujarat from 5 pm to 8 pm. He is scheduled to visit other places in the morning as well.
