Gujarat Vidyapith, still famous for its values, has started making forays into the world of technology, and how! Its students, not faculty members, conducted third-party audit of a state government’s networking project and tabled a detailed report on its findings last month.Usually, third party audits of the state government-run projects are conducted by senior faculty members of leading institutes like NIRMA University and Physical Research Laboratory.

But the deemed varsity founded by Mahatma Gandhi bagged the tender for the second phase of the checking and certification of the campus-wide networking project in district hospitals. The state health department awarding the bid to Gujarat Vidyapith despite the deemed varsity’s declaration that its students would conduct the audit reflects the immense faith of the authorities in the pupils of the institution.

The tender for the first phase of the third party audit of the health department scheme was bagged by Gandhinagar Engineering College, Chandkhera.Around 25 students of Gujarat Vidyapith’s University Science Centre (USC) conducted random checking of the networking project at the civil hospitals in Surat, Rajpipla, Bhavnagar, Palitana, Jamnagar, Jamkhambalia, Surendranagar, Porbandar, Petlad, Navsari, Dahod, Bharuch, Ahwa and Himmatnagar.

In course of the three-month-long auditing, the deemed university students stumbled upon several loopholes. But instead of just reporting them, they got in touch with the company concerned and sorted out the issues.

The HoD of University Science Centre (USC), Dharmendra Kadia, said: “The health department reposed faith in our students, and they responded through a meticulous job. The detailed report of our students has been tabled in November. The government has paid us Rs 2.5 lakh for the project, besides commending the work of the Vidyapith pupils.”
